Fallout New Vegas was such a big deal for us that we couldn’t just get one lone voice in a review of the game— instead we have a two person tag team review with IHCers Gloomcookie and Tinypenguininja. It’s a question and answer, he said / she said style review that breaks new game review journalistic ground for IHC. We’re on the bleeding edge of game reviewing!
My town has its quirks and negative aspects, but at the same time, some of the stupid redneckery is charmingly hilarious. Case in point, this sign:
I don’t know if Redneck is an actual company name, but a quick (and admittedly half-assed) Google search didn’t turn up anything concrete like a company website. So advertising a specific product or clever marking tactic? You decide.
It’s official. I’m going as a Vault Dweller from Fallout 3. I just ordered the navy blue coveralls and will be hitting up the craft store tomorrow for the bits and bobs I’ll need to make my pip-boy and one of the weapons from the game. Don’t expect fabulosity or anything, I’m not a great crafter, but hopefully I’ll do a decent job. :)
For those who aren’t sure wtf a Vault Dweller is, here’s a screen capture of my character:
(yes, that’s a 108 jumpsuit and not a 101. Sadly, I got tired of dragging the 101 jumpsuit around with me until I got a place to store it. I got shit to steal, ya’ll, I need to be able to carry it!)
Those who follow me who are also IHC fans probably already know about my quest for the right costume for a friend’s Halloween/Birthday bash (my birthday IS on Halloween and her birthday is October 25th; when your birthday is on or is close to the holiday, might as well roll it all into one and have a good time!). Costumes are more than encouraged and I do enjoy dressing up once a year; it’s one of the few times I get the chance to!
So here’s the issue: I have until the 30th to pull this off. Bigger issue? I have two ideas and I’m not sure which to go with! My first thought was to do a sort of ‘Sassy Cyber Woman’ in the Doctor Who fashion, just tweaked so I don’t have to wear a huge head to toe plastic cocoon.
Make a silver dress (my first instinct was to check online for something in my size, HA, yeah, I’m making my dress) using one of my dresses as a pattern, sewing an entire dress (GAH!) and simply shortening the skirt. Make a simple cyberman headband (think Jackie in Rise of the Cybermen), spray paint some old chunky boots silver, and make some wrister type things. Obviously make-up would play into that as well.
The other idea is to go as a Fallout 3 Vault Dweller.
Buy a pair of navy blue mechanic coveralls (only about $25-$30 online), dig up my old hiking boots (at worst, hit the thrift store for some combat boots), make a foam replica pip-boy and at least one weapon. Dirty up the coveralls a bit and run them through the wash a few zillion times, scuff up my old hiking boots some more, paint on the little details and alter up a belt. Might even make up a few Nuka Cola caps if I have the time/sanity.
So which do I choose? Both will be a LOT of work, I won’t lie, but I actually have almost a month to pull this off; luxury time considering most things I do are super last minute. What do you folks think?
